Director of Nursing and Midwifery

• Jane O'Malley RN PhD

  

  Jane O'Malley has been the Director of Nursing and Midwifery since November 2005.
  Prior to that, from 1997, she was Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine, Christchurch School of Medicine and President of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) from 2001 until 2005.
  She was a member of the DHB/NZNO Committee of Inquiry into Safe Staffing and Healthy Workplace (2006) and is currently co-chair of the governance group for the DHB/NZNO Safe Staffing and Healthy Workplace Unit.
  Jane is co-recipient of a 2007/08 Rural Innovation Fund to develop a Rural Nursing Workforce Strategy including working with a university to develop an integrated post graduate programme of preparation for nurses to work at advanced practice levels in rural hospitals and communities. Her interests include cycling, yoga, and photography.
  She holds a Masters Degree in "Delivery of Nursing Services" from New York University. Her PhD (2001) considered the impact of context on the delivery of acute inpatient mental health nursing care.

   

Nurse Consultant

• Michele Barber

  

  Michele has worked for the West Coast District Health Board in a variety of clinical, leadership and management roles, since 1998. She is currently employed as Nurse Consultant as has responsibility for professional nursing programmes and projects.
  Her clinical experience includes medical, critical care, practice, psychogeriatric and rehabilitation nursing.
  She has held Clinical Nurse Leader positions, and roles leading change projects and supporting professional development.
  Michele's CV lists membership or leadership of many projects, committees and professional and quality initiatives within West Coast DHB.
  She has strong professional networks through her involvement in the New Zealand Nurses Organisation's Diabetes and Research Sections, Intravenous Nurses New Zealand, the College of Nurses Aotearoa, and the West Coast Primary Health Care Nurses Network.
  She has a keen interest in rural nursing research.

   

Associate Director of Nursing, Mental Health

• Anne Tacon RN, RpdN, MHealSc (Mental Health)

  

  Anne has 28 years in mental health nursing, 6 delivering Mental Health specific education at both undergraduate and post graduate levels.
  Areas of expertise: assessment and crisis management, acute management of mental illness, MH triage.
  Clinical experiences includes working with 3 different psychiatric emergency teams, CMH nursing, psychiatric prison nursing, acute MH nursing.
  Roles have included Associate Director of Nursing MH, Clinical Charge Nurse, Clinical Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Leader, DAO.
  Geographically mobile I have previously worked for Canterbury , Counties Manukau, Auckland, and Lakes DHBs.
  Mental Health nursing on the Coast offers a less specialist approach which requires nurses to develop a broader range of skills.

  Nurse Manager, Community and Primary Health Care Services a large role that includes a wide mix of services extending from Karamea to Haast.

Clinical Midwifery Manager

• Judith Bruce RGON, RM, ADN, Proficiency Certificate in OBS and GYNAE - Otago Medical School; International Lactation Consultant

  

  Judith is our Clinical Midwifery Manager. She covers a large geographical area Karamea to Haast, coordinates maternity care for the entire West Coast and has established and maintained a Lead Maternity continuity of care midwifery system for twelve years.
