Obstetric and Gynaecology Services at the WCDHB
From 1 July until 4 August 2008, the WCDHB will not have O&G specialists on site. This situation is caused by a combination of existing commitments, illness and no locum cover being available.
Arrangements have been made with Canterbury DHB who have offered to assist by providing services in Christchurch. Expectant mothers who are assessed as high risk will be asked to relocate to Christchurch 2 weeks prior to their due date.

The West Coast District Health Board (WCDHB) was formed in 2001 and is responsible for the majority of publicly funded health and disability services throughout the West Coast. The WCDHB also runs the publicly owned hospital and health services.
A District Health Board provides the local communities with the opportunity to be involved with the planning, funding and delivery of health and disability services in the West Coast
The WCDHB covers the area between Karamea in the north and Jackson Bay in the south, and the east to Springs Junction.
The WCDHB has a number of Advisory Committees and is seeking to appoint members to join the Hospital Advisory Committee and the Disability Services Advisory Committee.

- availability to attend regular (often monthly) meetings and undertake preparatory work
- be able to differentiate between governance and management
The functions for the Hospital Advisory Committee are to:

- assess strategic issues relating to the provision of hospital services by or through the DHB and
- give the Board advice and recommendations on that monitoring and that assessment
The functions of the Disability Support Service Advisory Committee are to give the Board advice on:
- Provide the West Coast District Health Board with advice on the disability support needs of the resident WCDHB population and

Low Fees
at all
Primary Care Practices
The West Coast DHB has implemented the Very Low Cost Access scheme for patients at all its primary care practices. This helps keep fees very low for people who can least afford primary health care and improve health outcomes for those likely to have the worst health.
Patients enrolled with the West Coast PHO can have a standard consultation in normal clinic hours for the costs below.
- ZERO fees for children 0 - 5 years
- $10.50 maximum for children 6 -17 years and
- $15.50 maximum for all adults 18 years and over.
