A full time permanent position is currently available for an experienced Psychiatrist to work across and provide clinical leadership to all areas of the Mental Health Service on the West Coast, and act as Director of Mental Health Services [DAMHS]. The service employs approximately 120 staff, the majority of whom are long serving and experienced.
This position would suit someone wishing to move into a clinical leadership role in an environment which offers collegial and management support and the chance to gain a broad range of professional experience.
Our mental health service is well resourced and is poised on the edge of a number of service development initiatives which will enable us to fulfil our vision to become the best rural mental health service in New Zealand. We need an enthusiastic and energetic Clinical Director to help lead these developments.

The exact range and location of work you do is flexible and will be organized taking into consideration your specialties, interests and wishes.
You will be one of 3 Psychiatrists to serve a population of 31,000, with additional locums brought in one weekend per month and for leave and CME relief.
We have a good working relationship with Canterbury District Health Board, which under the South Island Regional Access Agreements provides specialty consultation and liaison support for our service, and where appropriate access to regional inpatient beds for subspecialties such as eating disorders, mothers and babies, child and youth, detoxification and forensic services. Visiting Forensic, Child and Adolescent and Alcohol and Drug Psychiatrists attend the West Coast regularly.
To be successful in this leadership role of Clinical Director and DAMHS you will hold FRANZCP membership. You will have a demonstrated ability to be flexible and will thrive in a team environment. You will also have demonstrated leadership skills and be interested in further professional development, well organised and a strategic thinker who is able to effectively lead and implement change. You will be familiar with national mental health policy directions and keen to work to improve the quality of services in partnership with consumers, family and the staff team.
The Clinical Director would need to coordinate the undergraduate medical education programme - this position includes an appointment at Senior Lecturer level with the University Otago to coordinate the undergraduate medical education in Psychiatry of their Rural Medical Immersion Programme
We'll pay relocation expenses for you and your family and, to help you settle in we'll provide a fully furnished home for you for four weeks and a vehicle will be provided initially.
