Health and Safety Message - December 2006: Waste Disposal
To identify and correctly dispose of waste generated from Health Care Services please know the following:
Clinical/Hazardous Waste i.e. Potential for harm injury to a person and/or the environment
This is controlled waste and is placed in YELLOW BAGS
General/Non Hazardous Waste from all areas where waste generated is not clinical i.e. patients rooms, toilets, tea rooms, kitchens
This is placed in GREEN BAGS
Confidential Waste
BLUE BINS Are placed in selected areas throughout the WCDHB
It is the responsibility of all staff members that waste for disposal is handled in such a manner as not to cause injury or harm to those involved in waste collection and disposal. Infection Control Policy and Procedures Manual 16.01 Waste Management Procedure Page 192-195
