The West Coast DHB wishes to advise that their Obstetric & Gynaecology cover issue has not yet been fully resolved. At this stage, cover for the period 5pm Wednesday 7 May until 10am Friday 9 May has not been confirmed.
The arrangements previously made with Canterbury DHB to provide services in Christchurch have therefore been extended to cover this period. This will involve patients at high-risk of complications needing to re-locate to Christchurch. Those patients affected will already have been advised by their Lead Maternity Carer.
Reasonable travel and accommodation costs will be met by the West Coast DHB.
There will also be no birthing at the Kawatiri Unit in Westport during this time.
