Māori Health Plan in effect

The West Coast DHB is pleased to announce that their second Māori Health Plan Te Kaupapa Hauora Māori 2007 - 2011, previously adopted by the board, has now been approved by the Ministry of Health.

The plan involved an extensive consultation process with iwi, Māori communities, Board Advisory groups, Tatau Pounamu Manawhenua Health Group and DHB staff in the second half of 2007.

The plan maps clear and defined pathways that enable the utilisation of health services by all Māori who live on Tai Poutini. It incorporates national and local strategic directions.

Māori West Coaster's health statistics are poorer than those of non-Māori and the plan demonstrates the commitment of the West Coast DHB to achieve positive improvements in these.

Through the Māori health plan, the West Coast DHB aims to strengthen the delivery of health services accessed by Māori and reduce associated inequalities so that Māori enjoy the same high health status and non-Māori.
