Regarding concerns of Dr Judy Forbes

The West Coast DHB has received a letter detailing some concerns by Dr Judy Forbes.

The issues raised by Dr Forbes have been taken very seriously and a clinical investigation has been undertaken by the Acting Medical Director. The investigation has been thorough, though has yet to be finalised. The Medical Director's report concludes that her claims do not give rise to risks to public safety.

In the view that the West Coast public are likely to be concerned by Dr Forbes' claims, the West Coast DHB have taken the additional step of asking the Ministry of Health to appoint a senior and independent doctor to check that the claims have been appropriately investigated.

Dr. David Galler will be conducting this work. He is the Minister of Health's Principal Medical Adviser, and works in Emergency medicine at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

The West Coast DHB acknowledges that there have been some problems with the new booking system and sincerely apologises for any problems that patients may have experienced. The decision made to pilot a central booking unit is intended to reduce the likelihood of future errors.
