Grey Base Hospital receives new OPG X-Ray machine

CPIT radiography student, Jacinta McGarry tries the fit of the OPG machine under the watch of WCDHB Radiology Manager, Jason Lister.

The West Coast DHB Radiology Dept at Grey Base Hospital has been very fortunate to recently receive a new piece of equipment courtesy of the Christchurch Radiology Group. The OPG X-Ray machine is a specialist piece of equipment for taking X-Ray images of jaws and is valued at approximately $30,000 - $40,000.

Jason Lister, Radiology Manager for the WCDHB was highly appreciative to receive the donation of the machine which was organised by Christchurch Radiology Group's managing director, Dr Tony Young.

The machine produces a panoramic image used for jaws. "The OPG machine takes just one image, instead of the five previously required hence exposing the patient to less radiation", he said.
