Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) Update

All operating theatres at Grey base Hospital have now been thoroughly cleaned and samples tested for MRSA contamination. The results indicate the areas to be clear and the theatres have reopened for surgery.

Tests carried out on patients and staff to date indicate that there has been no cross infection. Contact tracing of persons is continuing.

Continuous nosocomial (secondary infection) surveillance is being carried out as a normal part of our infection control procedures.

West Coast District Health Board Infection Control continues to liaise with the medical microbiologist at Canterbury Health Laboratories over any issues raised.
