Gary Coghlan New Chair of Tumu Whakarae

West Coast District Health Board General Manager of Maori Health, Gary Coghlan is the newly elected chair of Tumu Whakarae, the National Reference Group of Maori Health Strategy Managers.

At a hui hosted by the Waitemata District Health Board Mr Coghlan was elected to be the first ever South Island chair of the national body, made up from the country's 21 District Health Boards.

The kaupapa of Tumu Whakarae is to provide Maori leadership for District Health Boards in achieving better health outcomes for Maori and reducing health status inequalities between Maori and non-Maori.

The election is deserved recognition for the efforts of Mr Coghlan and his team at the West Coast DHB in championing Maori Health in the South Island.
