Swine Influenza Update 1

West Coast Health authorities are continuing to monitor the New Zealand situation regarding the possible swine influenza closely.

Four West Coast people who were identified as passengers on flight NZ 1 that arrived in Auckland on Anzac Day are all in voluntary quarantine and have been offered Tamiflu as a precaution. All of these travellers are currently without any flu-like symptoms. Their health will continue to be monitored regularly while they are in quarantine.

Any other persons who may have been passengers on NZ 1 that arrived in Auckland at 5am on Saturday 25 April are requested to contact a health clinic by phone as soon as they are able.

Any other persons who have been in Mexico or the United States in the past two weeks and are experiencing flu-like symptoms are also urged to contact their nearest health clinic by phone.

Any other person who is experiencing flu-like symptoms should treat themselves as they would normally do with seasonal influenza.

West Coast health clinics have all been advised of the precautions and testing procedure that needs to be followed should it be required.

West Coast District Health Board, Community and Public Health and West Coast Primary Health Organisation staff are in close liaison with each other and are being regularly advised of any changes in the national situation.

Anyone with any personal health concerns regarding the swine flu should contact Healthline on 0800 611 116.
