Preferred Provider Announced

The West Coast District Health Board has selected Richmond New Zealand as the preferred provider for the future provision of Peer-led Activity and Living Skills Services for mental health service users on the West Coast.  The Request for Proposal process generated significant interest from a broad range of service providers leading to eight applications being submitted to the RFP assessment panel.

Richmond New Zealand will join Te Ara Mahi, the successful supplier of Education and Employment Support Services in providing Mental Health Support Services on the West Coast.

Richmond New Zealand proposes a model of service delivery for the provision of Peer-Led Activity and Living Skills services that combines a mixture of drop-in services, group activities and individual support services that assist clients to achieve the highest possible level of autonomy within their community. This will ensure that the needs of current service users are met and that the identified gaps in current service provision are also addressed.

Richmond New Zealand is a major national provider of community mental health and support services and is one of New Zealand's largest Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) with an annual turnover of approximately $30 million.  Richmond has a strong track record of working in partnership and collaboration with the clients it serves, their families and whanau, with other service providers, funding agencies, and with the wide and varied range of stakeholders who have an interest in the health and wellbeing of the community.

Wayne Turp, General Manager Planning and Funding, explained that the choice of Richmond as preferred provider was made after a careful and rigorous selection process that considered the proposed model of care, accessibility and acceptability to service users, quality and outcome measures, and value for money.

"We have received a very clear message from service users and from consumer advocates about ensuring that the needs of current service users are not disregarded.  The vision and values of Richmond New Zealand are very much in line with those of the West Coast District Health Board, having a person centred model that encourages all people to achieve their full potential".
