Some of the elective surgery that was planned for next week at Grey Base Hospital has had to be postponed. Those patients affected by this disruption will have been already contacted by the District Health Board.
Patients who have procedures scheduled for next week who have not received notice of any disruption should present themselves to the hospital at the already arranged time.
A locum anaesthetist who was to be working at Grey Base Hospital has tested positive for Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) as part of routine health and safety checks prior to commencing work in Greymouth Base Hospital.
This locum will now not be available until a course of treatment has been completed.
This situation does not affect the West Coast District Health Board's ability to provide acute surgical cover and does not affect all elective surgery cases.
The West Coast District Health Board regrets the inconvenience to patients and will reschedule procedures as soon as is practicable.
