Introduction

2008/09 was a year with some significant changes for the West Coast District Health Board. Joel George was welcomed to the West Coast, initially in an acting capacity and later confirmed full-time in the chief executive role.
An early highlight in the year was when the West Coast DHB project "Alternative Pathways for New Patients" won the Excellence in Process Improvement Award at the New Zealand Health Innovation Awards.
