Caring for Children who are in Hospital - Parfitt Ward
Children who are patients at Grey Base Hospital stay in the Parfitt Ward. This ward is located on the hospital's ground floor.
Family-centred Care
- We encourage family-centred care and therefore ask you to stay with your child and participate in their care.
- Your child's legal guardian is required to be present to provide consent for the procedure required.
What To Bring
- Nappies
- Clean pyjamas
- Favourite toy or cuddly
- Baby's bottle or feeder cup with favourite drink
- Toothbrush
Ground Rules
- While staying with your child we expect you to be responsible for your child's behaviour.
- Please feel free to go for a walk or take a break. Please tell staff of your intended movements - this includes taking your child for a walk.
Isolation
If you and your child are in isolation please observe the unit's requirements.

Food and Nutrition
Meals are provided for the child. Hot and cold drinks are readily available at all times.
Please check with us what your child is allowed to eat or drink before supplying anything. Extra food may be purchased from the cafeteria.
Cafeteria Hours
Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.
Saturday and Sunday 8.00 am to 3.00 pm.
Smoking
We are a smoke free environment. We offer a quit smoking programme - "Quit For Our Kids".
Visiting
Who can visit?
Parents, caregivers and family members are welcome to visit as they wish.
General Information
If your child is staying in hospital overnight, we provide a bed for one caregiver.
Please note: Meals are not supplied for the caregiver.
A supermarket and garage is two minutes walk from the hospital.
A hospital social worker is available to discuss any needs or problems you may have.
