Important Update
New appointments process for South Westland health clinics
A new 0800 phone number has been launched for South Westland health clinics. The number will take patients to the Franz Josef clinic which will handle all appointments for the South Westland clinics at Haast, Fox Glacier, Franz Josef, Whataroa and Hari Hari. Appointments will no longer be taken at individual clinics.
The number is 0800 SWHealth (0800 79432584). It will be manned by a receptionist from 8.30am to 12.00pm and 1pm to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (not including Public Holidays). Outside these hours patients will be able to leave a message.
The 0800 number will reduce pressure on individual clinics where there isn't a receptionist, allowing the clinical staff to work with less interruption.

Megan Collie is the Nurse Specialist for Franz Josef at the new Medical Centre building located at 97 Cron Street (northern end of Cron Street) on the days indicated on the Health Clinic rosters (updated monthly) (Note: A link to the roster is provided on the right section of this page).

Making an Appointment
Appointments are needed for clinic consultations. Please ring 0800 SWHealth (0800 79432584), or (03) 752-0700 to book.
As we are also involved with the 111 emergency service, appointment times may need to be changed at short notice.
Health Services
We are able to offer many of the services that you might expect from a General Practice.
Please note that the nearest pharmacy is Westland Pharmacy in Hokitika, ph. 0800 107455 to set up an account to send items by post or on bus to Franz Josef daily.
The nearest X-ray facility and Emergency Department is at Grey Base Hospital in Greymouth.
Enrolment
If you are staying in Franz Josef Glacier for any length of time, and you fit the eligibility criteria, we encourage you to enrol with the practice as a way of keeping your health care costs down. (eg. On a normal weekday a 15 min clinic visit costs $17 if enrolled here, $50 if you have a doctor elsewhere. There are extra charges at weekends and after hours.)

Copies of the roster and charges can also be found at various notice boards around the township.
On alternate weekends (Friday evening to Wednesday morning) the on-call nurse will respond from Fox Glacier, to cover the Franz Josef nurse's days off.
Other Health Related Services
- We can refer to mental health care experts who can also help with alcohol and drug problems. They are based in Hokitika and visit weekly.
- For people enrolled with us, we can provide Nicotine Replacement Patches and weekly support, if you want to stop smoking.
- We can also provide low cost (or FREE if under 22 years old) condoms and other sexual health care for most people.
- Ferngrove Souvenir shop has a stock of over-the-counter medicines ph. (03) 752-0731
